Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a medical science discipline. Its main goal is to maximize patient’s function using different physical means such as manual therapy, teaching of exercises, heat, cold and electrotherapy. It seeks to correct articular, muscular and neural dysfunctions which lead to pain as well as altered muscle control, strength, endurance and proprioceptive deficits. The main goal of a physiotherapist is to bring a patient to his optimal fitness level.
Manual Therapy
Manual therapy is a therapeutic approach beginning with a detailed clinical evaluation in order to correctly identify the source of the functional problems and assess precisely their severity. This permits us to orchestrate a specific rehabilitation plan.
Following the evaluation, a variety of techniques such as articular mobilizations or manipulations, neural mobilizations, soft tissue techniques and stretching will be used in order to restore optimal function and mobility.
PhysioActif is proud to have a team specialized in manual therapy as well as being one of the rare clinics in Quebec to have accredited physiotherapists from the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy.
Sports Physiotherapy
The practice of sports physiotherapy in a clinic setting demands a sharp knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and a good understanding of sports biomechanics in order to answer the specific needs of the athlete. The sports physiotherapist, in association with the professional or recreational athlete, has to elaborate a plan of treatment geared towards a fast return to activity or competition.
We are accredited by the Centre National Multisports de Montréal (CNMM) which steers the athletes and trainers towards specific sports medicine resources. Every athlete holding a patent issued by Sports Canada or recognized in the category of excellence by the ministry of Education, Sports and Leisure, has access to our services free of charge.
Motor control
This is a new approach stemming from the most recent research and scientific evidence. This evaluation and treatment method aims at identifying and treating movement dysfunctions responsible for pain and incapacities. These dysfunctions are present in several pathologies. Physiotherapists are specialists in movement science and by using this approach, combined with manual therapy, they are the experts in the prescription of exercises leading to the resolution of these dysfunctions.
