Sylvain St-Amour
In a few words
"Keep it simple stupid!!"
What has driven me since the beginning of my career is helping others, both my patients and my physio colleagues in the clinic and in Quebec, with diagnoses, reasoning and interventions that work and are reliable. No nonsense. No intervention without a diagnosis. We keep it simple so that it's effective and everyone benefits.
I get along very well with those who want to question what they think (about musculoskeletal health of course!) and especially those who want to push the limits imposed on them by a: "there is nothing to be done". My specialty: finding a solution when there seems to be no solution.
I have an interest in strange pains, pains that have not been treated effectively until now, pains related to sports, and pains related to doing nothing at all!!

Strangely enough, it was completely by chance that I ended up in physiotherapy on the first day! But I immediately became attached to this profession which requires a scientific and organized side and a touch of creativity. The ability to make a real and rapid change in people's lives continues to nourish me after all these years.
From the start, I began working in a private clinic. After 1 year, I launched the Physio-Performance clinic to leave the usual practice mode at that time and move towards a more thoughtful, more individualized, more... performing physiotherapy! 5 years later, 2nd clinic and a new name, Physioactif! and the other clinics followed in 2012 (Boisbriand) and 2018 (Claude-Robillard and Vaudreuil).
During this time, from 2000, I began teaching at the University of Montreal in physiotherapy and in 2009, I became a lecturer in the 3rd year, a teaching position that I have held ever since. In 2005, I obtained my Fellowship in advanced musculoskeletal physiotherapy, which allowed me in 2007 to begin teaching physiotherapists at the Association québécoise de physiothérapie musculosquelettique avancée until today. I have also taught and been a speaker in symposiums, in continuing education in physiotherapy, mainly the treatment of pain associated with nerves since 2005.

To allow my patients to become themselves again/resume activities they had given up on, especially when they were convinced it was no longer possible. To dedicate a good part of my time to always perfecting our approaches with the help of the whole team and to share with them the findings of each and everyone to make us all even better.
I have mainly practiced kitesurfing and kiteskiing in recent years, as well as whitewater kayaking. Hiking has been a constantly renewed pleasure for the last 25 years.
I haven't really been injured, but I've often been in pain, and that has especially helped me to intimately understand what my patients are going through. I have experienced cervical, thoracic, lumbar, shoulder, elbow, and knee pain. In short, I understand many of my patients. But I also learned through all of this how to continue working and doing all my sports. And that's what I've been passing on ever since.
My mother recently reminded me that I said as a child that I would be a farmer, but also a doctor so I could have money! That perhaps explains why I am a physio and have chickens, rabbits, bees, fruit trees and a huge garden!!

Approaches mastered by Alexis
The McKenzie Approach is a globally recognized assessment and treatment method, particularly effective for back problems. This approach equips you with the tools to independently manage and prevent your pain.
The Mulligan approach, recognized worldwide, combines active movement and mobilization for immediate results. This unique technique restores joint function without pain, even in cases where other approaches have failed.
Knowledge is key to a successful recovery. Our educational approach allows you to better understand your pain problem and gives you the necessary tools to actively participate in your recovery and prevent recurrences.
A poorly set up workstation can cause tension and pain that affects your productivity. Our professional ergonomic assessment identifies the necessary adjustments to create a comfortable and efficient workspace.
A personalized exercise program is key to achieving your strength and endurance goals. Our expertise in designing customized programs allows you to progress safely while respecting your abilities and lifestyle.
Weak stabilizing muscles can lead to pain during prolonged postures or everyday movements. Core exercises are often taught incorrectly, hindering your progress. Our specialized approach activates these essential deep muscles, creating a solid foundation for all your movements and daily activities.
Complex musculoskeletal conditions require in-depth expertise for accurate diagnosis and treatment. The FCAMPT certification represents the highest level of training in manual therapy in Canada, guaranteeing specialized care based on the latest evidence.
Joint pain and stiffness can significantly limit your daily life. Our physiotherapists use specialized joint mobilization and manipulation techniques to restore the natural movement of your joints and reduce your pain.
Poor posture can be the source of many daily aches and discomforts. Our approach combines precise postural analysis and practical solutions to improve your natural alignment and prevent chronic muscle tension.
Always moving in the same way can create injuries because repetitive movements end up overloading the same structures in your body. Our approach precisely analyzes and corrects your movement patterns to restore biomechanics that will not create microtrauma.
Therapeutic taping is a versatile technique that uses different types of adhesive tapes to relieve pain and improve joint stability. Among our approaches, we notably use the McConnell method, recognized for its effectiveness in biomechanical correction and the treatment of joint pain.
Tele-physio offers the flexibility of professional care from your home. No matter where you are in the world, you can benefit from our unique expertise. This modern solution allows for effective and personalized follow-up, adapted to your schedule, while maintaining the quality of care.
Primitive reflexes that persist into adulthood can disrupt your balance, coordination, and posture, leading to tension and chronic pain. Our specialized approach targets these primitive motor patterns to restore more mature and efficient movements. These treatments are recommended for persistent pain.
