Charles Chaussegros de Léry

in a nutshell

"When everything seems to be going against you, remember that an airplane takes off against the wind, not with it."

‍

That’s a phrase that really sums up my outlook on life. Behind every challenge, I see an opportunity to learn and grow. As a physical therapist, it’s with this optimism that I support my patients in achieving their goals.

‍

You'll get along well with me if:

  • Do you enjoy biking, being active, and playing outside?
  • You're motivated to work toward getting better
  • Do you want to understand the mechanisms behind your current condition?

‍

I have a particular interest in:

  • Sports injuries, particularly those related to endurance sports, such as running and cycling
  • Persistent pain
  • Bike Riding Posture

What has your career path been like?

My career path has been unconventional, to say the least. Curious and searching for a career, I first earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. Then, my passion for cycling and my desire to take on challenges led me to open my own bicycle sales and repair shop in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighborhood. This venture, which I ran for 10 years, gave me in-depth expertise in cycling, but above all, it made me realize just how much I enjoyed helping people achieve their goals. Physical therapy then naturally presented itself to me as a way to combine helping others with my interest in sports and the human body.

Continuing education?
  • The Neuromeningeal System in Musculoskeletal Conditions: Assessment, Exercises, and Treatment - 1.0 (2025, Claudine Farah and Alexis Gougeon, École Physio Lab)
  • Managing Psychosocial Challenges in Physical Therapy (2026, Ariel Desjardins-Charbonneau and Alexis Gougeon, École Physio Lab)
  • 1.0 The Basics of Running Injuries (2026, La Clinique du Coureur)
  • Cycling Posture – Level 1 + Physiovélo EXPERT Seminar (2026, Physiovélo Clinic)
What do you find most rewarding about your job?

I am fascinated by the human body and all its complexity. I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, and attending training sessions to continually improve my skills. I love being able to make a difference in my patients’ quality of life and seeing them get better and better, week after week.

What sports do you play?

I have a soft spot for endurance sports. I'm an avid cyclist: road biking, gravel biking, touring, fixed-gear biking, and more. I also enjoy road and trail running, as well as cross-country skiing.

Have you ever been injured?

I struggled with a knee injury for nearly 18 months after a bicycle accident. That injury definitely taught me to listen to my body. It also introduced me to the fascinating relationship between the psychological and biological aspects of an injury.

Three funny facts about you

1. I love discovering new music and I like to play DJ at home; I have a small collection of vinyl records and CDs.

‍

2. I climbed Mount Fuji.

‍

3. I own about ten bikes...
