Olivier D’Anjou

in a nutshell

"Work hard, play hard!"

‍

I’m a physical therapist, and I love helping people who share this philosophy and want to keep playing their sport. My expertise focuses on running and sports injuries. My goal is simple: to get you back to doing what you love as quickly and safely as possible, while ensuring that the injury doesn’t come back.

What has your career path been like?

At first, I was pursuing a career in engineering. By the end of my CEGEP studies, I realized that my true calling was in the sports industry, regardless of the job title. While playing soccer with the Champlain Cavaliers, I sustained a number of injuries, and I quickly came to understand that what limits an athlete the most isn’t their talent, but their injuries. Physical therapy became the obvious solution for me to help athletes return as quickly as possible not only to their sport, but also to the mental well-being that sports provide them.

‍

So I began my journey with a year and a half of kinesiology at the University of Montreal, before completing my four-year bachelor’s degree in physical therapy—all to give myself as many tools as possible to help my athletes perform and recover—all while playing soccer for the Carabins.

What do you find most rewarding about your job?

What I love most is seeing my patients’ eyes light up right in the middle of treatment, when they regain movement or experience less pain and finally realize that there is hope for their condition. Helping them get back to playing their sport—there’s nothing more rewarding.

What sports do you play?

Running, Hyrox, weight training, golf, soccer, cycling, and pickleball.

Have you ever been injured?

I’ve had a lot of injuries—to my foot, ankle, hips, back, and shoulder. Every time, I realize that I need to set aside time to take care of them so they don’t drag on, and that time has always been well worth it.

‍

My worst injury was to my foot, near my big toe, in 2024. It had a huge impact on my last two years as a college soccer player. It was a misdiagnosis and an approach I eventually came to regret, once I realized I was on the wrong track: I thought it was the same injury recurring, but there was a hidden side to the story. I want to do everything I can to make sure no one else goes through this—two years of on-and-off play in the sport that matters most to me; there’s nothing worse.

‍

This experience really made me think deeply about running, orthotics, and running shoes. I sought out knowledge beyond the Clinique du Coureur and Blaise Dubois, seeking the opinions of other experts in the United States and London. It became a true mission: to better understand pain and the biomechanics of running.

Three funny facts about you

I'm a big sushi fan, and there's no limit to how much I can eat (maybe 60—we could have a contest!).

‍

I love to travel; that’s where my budget goes, along with sports. For me, living means being active, exploring, and discovering.

‍

My family thinks I don't give my Golden Retriever enough love, but my secret is that I go see her on the sly when she's alone. She's incredible—the best dog ever.
